Youth can explore enlightened philanthropy through a Bar
or Bat Mitzvah Fund. B'nai Mitzvah funds operate just like
Donor-Advised Philanthropic Funds,
but they may be established at a lower minimum amount ($2,500).
A Bar or Bat Mitzvah fund can be established through an outright
contribution, or through gifts from family and friends to
the Foundation in honor of a Bar or Bat Mitzvah. All contributions
to the fund are tax-deductible.
A Bar or Bat Mitzvah fund can be a meaningful, "hands-on"
family vehicle for learning about philanthropy, providing
youth with an important component of a comprehensive Jewish
education.
Grants can be made out of the fund, providing familes with
an opportunity to explore tzedakah and tikkun olam
together. Further contributions to the fund can be made at
any time.
At a glance:
- A vehicle for youth to learn about and experience philanthropy
- A philanthropic alternative to cash Bar/Bat Mitzvah gifts
from friends and family
